Rare wine - Vintage 1993

1993 was only partly successful in France. It was very promising in Bordeaux but suffered from important rainfalls in september and october. Memorable bottles are elegant, intense and supple Pomerol and Saint-Emilion wines. Cabernet-sauvignon wasn’t very consistent, but the Grand Cru ranked wine still won’t disappoint. White wines from the left bank turned out to be very interesting.

On the contrary, Bourgogne produced beautiful nectars despite mildew and bad weather. Red wines from beautiful Côte de Nuits appellations from 1993 offer a great aromatic complexity as a result of a long ageing.

In Champagne, harvests started quite early after a warm spring and sunny summer. Quality wineries produced a beautiful wine thanks to a great grape selection. Any of their bottles is therefore a worthy collectible wine. Pinot Noir tends to prevail in the blends.

Loire wine was also quite a success in 1993, even if most bottles passed their peak, unless it is a sweet white wine.

On the Rhône side, the wines are pretty mediocre except for the excellent Châteauneuf-du-pape. In Alsace, 1993 was a good but not exceptional vintage. Sweet wines are the most interesting to taste.
