Rare wine - Vintage 1977

1977 was a disappointing vintage almost everywhere in France.

Weather conditions did not help the production in Bordeaux. The summer was cold and wet and, despite late harvests in mid-october, grapes lacked maturity. A few red wines, however, managed to stand out : Château Latour and Château Lafite Rothschild. These wines are of average quality with beautiful colors.

Bordeaux white wines are very low quality.

Same goes for Sauternes, which produced disappointing wines.

The Bourgogne region suffered from a rainy summer but managed to produce a few wines with a powerful aroma.

The rain also raged in the Rhône region. If there were better days in september, great wines are nonexistent.

No french region stands out and the 1977 vintage is far from memorable, especially after the successful 1975 and 1976 vintages.

If you are interested by the 1977 vintage, opt for a solid value such as Château Angelus or Château d’Yquem.
