Rare wine - Vintage 1944

The 1944 vintage was quite disappointing in all french regions.

The weather conditions did nothing to promote a successful harvest in Bordeaux. Summer was deeply affected by the rain and despite the late harvest, the grapes lacked in maturation. However, some red wines manage to stand out. The Bordeaux red wines are now highly sought-after.

The white Bordeaux wines, however, are of poor quality.

In Sauternes, the wines are superior despite some unevenness depending on the domaines. The syrupy wines are smooth and sappy.

Bourgogne also suffered from a rainy summer and a lack of maturity of the grapes. 1944 was a bad year for the region.

The rainy weather affected Vallée du Rhône as well. Even if september was blessed with sunny days, great wines are impossible to find from this region.

No french region was very successful in 1944 and so the vintage, overthrown by its elder, does not stand out,

If you are interested by the 1944 vintage, opt for a safe bet such as Château Filhot, Château Lafite Rothschild or Château Margaux.
