1992 suffered from adverse weather a few times, urging winemakers to be creative and use their talent in order to save crops. Early flowering was also affected by an unusually strong frost. The particularly wet summer almost destroyed all hopes of creating beautiful wines. As a result, it might seem difficult to find a bottle to taste from this year. However, don’t despair, some real marvels are still available.
In Bourgogne, flooded domaines were faced with water-filled grapes, whose structures weren’t strong enough to create powerful wines. However, the Côte de Beaune vineyard benefited from favorable weather conditions and produced many powerful red wines that year, with a very promising ageing potential.
The Bourgogne white wine from 1992 stands out with its elegant complexity and wine lovers will be delighted by the Meursault and Cortons Charlemagne.
Broadly speaking, the Bordeaux vineyard produced an underwhelming red wine collection with a low ageing potential. The Bordeaux white wines however benefited from the cool air of summer end. The 1992 Pessac Léognan and Haut-Brion stand out with their beautiful balance of delicate aromas.
Add a 1992 bottle to your collection, a difficult year for many domaines but a chance to shine for many others.
