Rare wine - Vintage 1994

1994 was good but quite irregular. It was scarred by heavy september rains which made harvests complicated. The winemakers’ skills were a deciding factor for the wine quality.

Despite a hot and dry summer in Bordeaux, many castles had to give up 30 to 50% of their crops. The best wines came from gravelly soils which made drainage easier. Merlot and white Pessac-Léognan wines were quite successful.

In Bourgogne, after a favorable summer, rainfalls led to water-soaked or rotten grapes, even if Côte d’Or produced very interesting bottles.

Champagne’s grapes had a hard time reaching optimal maturity, suffering from rot like the Loire region.

Vallée du Rhône produced excellent Hermitage wines. So, if you have a Châteauneuf du pape bottle in your cellar, do not take too long to taste it.

Alsace was this year’s success with a wine produced from beautiful late harvests. A worthy collectible wine thanks to a very sunny october. Among our collection, you will find an excellent 1994 Arbois bottle (nice Jura vintage).
