Rare wine - Vintage 1940

1940 was a warm year which produced a decent vintage. In spite of the drought, the vines survived and the hot sunrays promoted a good harvest.

The flowering period started in early june and the fruits started to ripen early in Bourgogne, producing subtle and fine red wines such as : Domaine Jean-Pierre Colin, the excellent Corton « Les Renards » or Bourgogne Combastet.

In Bordeaux, well-balanced, harmonious red wines were produced : the Magnum Château Belles Caves, which is an excellent wine-themed gift idea, or the Vieux Château Certan, a prestigious and delicate wine, Château Phéan Ségur is also an excellent red wine. The 1940 vintage proves to be better than the 1939.

Some very successful bottles were produced in Champagne as well, where the harvest was important and mature. You may want to try the famous Champagne Blason de France.

In Vallée du Rhône, however, the quality of the wines is quite low due to weather conditions which destroyed the crop.
