Following its predecessor’s success, the 1971 vintage is as high-quality though less abundant. The wines produced are harmonious and well-made.
Thanks to a beautiful, warm summer, every Bordeaux appellations produced fine, charming wines. The white Bordeaux wines are also very appreciable.
The Bourgogne region was quite successful despite a difficult blooming period and a few hailstorms. The Bourgogne wines are very interesting.
If the Champagne region reached a production record the previous year, 1971 was not quite so successful. Some bottles are however excellent.
In the Rhône valley, the wines are more or less structured with a good ageing potential. Alsace also produced fine, concentrated wines. The Loire wines, however, are quite weak.
Considering the good weather conditions, most of the french regions produced excellent 1971 wines.
