In order to assess the quality of a wine, you can check the label and capsule’s condition, but 2005 is usually a guarantee of an exceptional year.
Why ? Because the particularly nice and favourable weather of that year benefited red, white and syrupy wines.
The combination of « heat – sun – drought – early spring » allowed for a fast blooming and a slow, uniform maturation, perfect sanitary conditions for harvesting and an ideal balance between sugar, alcohol and acidity. The low rainfall also resulted in a better wine quality. The Southwest benefited from alternating hot days and cold nights, meaning a powerful red wine and an aromatic white wine.
Bordeaux wines, rich and colorful, will offer a very good ageing capacity.
Bougogne wines will be no different, giving Chardonnay the perfect balance between sugar and acidity.
Loire wines will be well-balanced, aromatic and powerful, syrupy wines will be particularly rich.
Champagne, despite a slightly more unstable weather, will produce exceptional Chardonnay.
