As a result, a majestic and well-balanced wine with a decent natural alcohol level was produced, especially in Bourgogne. The early spring and warm summer season ensured a good maturation of the grapes.

 

However, the cold snap in Champagne caused lots of damage though the heat of the summer sun managed to save the day. The vines produced excellent grapes which led to a delicious, quality wine with a tannic and silky finish. 1953 wines have an excellent ageing potential with perfect alcohol and acidity levels.

 

Prestigious references from 1953 include Margaux, Palmer and Lynch-Bages. Special mention to Haut-Brion which produced an exceptional, full-bodied merlot.
