1947 produced an excellent vintage : this year was very successful for most vineyards in France.
Thanks to a late and favorable spring as well as an almost tropical summer, Bordeaux produced massive, strong and rich red wines with an excellent ageing
potential. Sauternes wines are perfect and can be preserved for a very long time.
They are excellent though a little acidic.
In Bourgogne, the light september rain helped grow high quality wines in limited quantities. The 1947 Bougogne wines are mature, rich, majestic and balanced to perfection.
In Champagne, the wines are full-bodied and mature with an excellent ageing potential. Same goes for Vallée du Rhône which produced powerful, generous and well-balanced wines with a good ageing potential.
Alsace produced an exceptional 1947 vintage, just like Loire with its fabulous syrupy wines.
Purchasing a 1947 bottle is an excellent idea to celebrate a happy event. Here are a few very successful bottles from this vintage : Ausone, Petrus, Mouton Rothschild, Haut-Brion, Cheval Blanc, La Conseillante, Margaux, Palmer, Hermitage and Calon Ségur.
First growth. Bottled at the Château.
