Composed of the Hermitage hill (a single 137 ha vineyard located in Tain), this appellation allows each winemaker to express his/her style, producing either wines from micro-parcels or interesting blended wines. The production of Hermitage wines is composed of 25% of white wines which are some of the best in France. Even if they have a strong ageing potential, they can be tasted in their youth, decanted by lovers of young fruits.

Among the greatest producers : maison delas, domaine sorrel, domaine chapoutier... and the famous domaine chave with its rare cuvée Cathelin.

Main grape varieties : Syrah for red wines ; marsanne and roussane for white wines.

Soils : Originally, the Hermitage hill is composed of a granit boulder which was separated from the Massif Central by the Rhône river. Areas of calcareous and clay deposits, even sand, planted with white grape varieties.

Style of wines :

White wines : aromas of broom, acacia, butter, white fruits, liquorice, gentian, walnut and truffle for these great high-quality white wines.

Red wines : Smooth with aromas of chocolate, black fruits and notes of liquorice, pepper, spices and violette, with a great lenght in the mouth.
