1963 is nowhere near as good as the exceptional 1961 vintage.
Despite poor weather conditions in some regions, the 1963 vintage was not very successful in most regions in France. Only the Bourgogne region managed to produce excellent and elegant wines.
Bordeaux produced disappointing wines, light and diluted, in very small quantities. However, Château Latour still produced a great 1963 wine.
In Vallée du Rhône, the same thing happened. Weather conditions did not promote good maturation of the grapes.
In Bourgogne however, despite heavy rainfalls, the sunny off-season helped the grapes to mature properly. Even with late harvests in november, Bourgogne wines are elegant, supple, fine and aromatic.
If you wish to purchase a good 1963 wine, we have put together a selection of staple bottles from this vintage : Château d’Yquem, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Haut-Batailley and Banyuls Grand Cru. These bottles will be perfect for important events such as a wedding anniversary for example.
First growth Bordeaux. Bottled at the Château. Sauternes appellation. Rare wine.
